What They Say About Lindsey...

  • D GrimasonGeneral Counsel and Company Secretary, V.Group

"Lindsey worked as an integral part of the team from day one of her engagement, assisting in the re-design of our mission and helping with the evolution from hub and spoke reporting to collaborative leadership. Her previous experience as a GC, serving on a diverse business leadership team at board level, provided an invaluable perspective on stakeholder requirements and how to fulfil them from the broader collective purpose of the team. Lindsey works from a place of knowledge and experience, bringing pragmatism and commercial reality to each challenge; and all delivered with her contagious sense of fun. I have personally worked with Lindsey for many years and I am always looking for a reason to have her on my team."

  • L. GreenGeneral Counsel, Trakm8

"Having gone through the same journey as me, Lindsey’s knowledge and experience was invaluable. She understood "my world" and offered pragmatic and workable insights. Working with Lindsey helped me delve into and tackle difficult questions and situations with clarity.

She guided with sensitivity and humility and always with my best interests at heart. A truly trusted mentor"

  • S. HardcastleMA Student, Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL

"Lindsey is a super supportive and encouraging coach who miraculously manages to balance pragmatism with sensitivity and understanding! Working alongside Lindsey has given me more confidence in articulating my thoughts and more clarity in making steps to achieve my goals. "

  • M. HickmottSenior Creative Manager, Selfridges & Co.

“Lindsey helped me to think about challenges in a different way and pushed me to get to the root of what was causing those challenges. Her varied career experience offered a useful perspective from outside of my situation.

Lindsey’s coaching style is relaxed and supportive but gets quickly to the point and is honest. She brings a sense a humour to the conversation and encouraged me to be brave when trying to find solutions. My expectations were exceeded"

  • Jessica RobinsonLegal Counsel, Travis Perkins

“The coaching programme I followed with Lindsey really helped me to focus on my career development. Her friendly and relaxed style put me at ease, whilst her professional background gave me the confidence that she understands the pressures and challenges faced on a day-to-day basis.

She introduced me to a variety of tools and techniques which have made me more self-aware, improved my skills in managing others and allowed me to concentrate on developing my career in both the short and long term.”

  • Mrs GHeadteacher

"As a new headteacher of a primary school I was struggling with ‘imposter syndrome’ and terrible self-doubt. Leading a team of mostly experienced staff, who had been working at the school for several years, was a challenge.

Lindsey listened and guided her questions to support my understanding about the challenges I was having. She was supportive, a great listener and empowered me to have the confidence to address some of my personal challenges and conflict which I felt was becoming obstructive.

Lindsey helped me to recognise my credibility and strengths and over a year later I am a stronger leader of a super team that are hardworking, respectful and on board, moving forward together."

What Is Coaching?

Individual Coaching

“The art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of another” John Leary-Joyce, Founder AoEC

Individual Coaching: The art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of another

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you can’t seem to move forward? You want that promotion but it’s just not happening or perhaps you’ve already got that promotion and finding the transition a bit tough? Maybe you’re at a crossroads and you can’t seem to decide which path to take.

Coaching can benefit in numerous situations where there is a need for a little extra help to focus the mind and find solutions and where the input of another would be far more effective than working alone.

Coaching can give you a framework to get from where you are now, to where you ultimately want to be. A good coach will work in partnership with you and through a combination of powerful questioning techniques and deep listening will help to raise awareness and not only clarify what you want to achieve but also help you put in place a pragmatic step by step plan of action tailored specifically around your needs.

Coaching will help you remove some of the blockages, move forward, achieve your goals and allow you to reach your full potential. In addition, coaching can provide you with the tools and techniques to ensure lasting change and enable you to overcome any obstacles you may encounter along the way.

Individual coaching can help with the following type of issues:

  • Career path
  • Career change
  • Promotion
  • Motivation
  • Moving to management
  • Leadership
  • Managing difficult relationships
  • Learning to delegate
  • Priorities
  • Work/life balance
  • Presentations
  • Increasing confidence and assertiveness

Team Coaching

"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success." Henry Ford

Team Coaching: "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."Is your team having some difficulties achieving its goals? Does your team even know what those goals are? Perhaps it’s a new team that need some help to ‘gel’ or an established team that need some stimulation to get out of old habits and innovate? Maybe the business is going through change and the team need help adapting and responding to this? Team coaching works not only with the whole team together but also with each individual team member taking into account the business context and all other external influences to ensure the necessary change can happen.

We work with the Team Connect 360 diagnostics tool which facilitates teams to:

  • evaluate how they currently function;
  • understand how current practice may be hindering or contributing to performance; and
  • provide guidance to the team on how and where to develop its effectiveness

Team Coaching can help with the following type of issues:

  • clarification on what the team want to achieve and why (purpose, mission, vision, strategy)
  • Progression from a ‘group’ to a ‘team’
  • Understanding and streamlining critical processes
  • Helping teams to monitor progress and measure success
  • adapting to a changing environment
  • Exploring the collective dynamic of the team and reinforcing trust
  • Understanding and Improvement of stakeholder engagement

What is Mentoring? “Mentoring is a system of semi-structured guidance whereby one person shares their knowledge, skills and experience to assist others to progress in their own lives and careers.”There will be times as you move through your career that you could do with a sounding board, just someone who’s done it before and can share their experience of the good and the bad. There are things you don’t necessarily want to discuss with your colleagues or your boss, maybe it’s your colleagues or your boss you want to discuss! A good mentor will help you along the way, providing an independent non-partisan viewpoint and impartial insight based on their own experience and learnings. A mentor provides the benefit of wisdom and learning from the road already travelled, a rich source of knowledge and experience for you to tap into. You’ll get the benefit of their successes and mistakes and be free to take away from this what you will. As well as providing practical advice, encouragement and support, a good mentor can help you build your professional network, provide challenging and empathetic feedback and be a ‘critical friend’

Mentoring may be appropriate in the following situations:

  • Integrating new starters
  • Recently promoted colleagues
  • Supporting ‘High Potential’ individuals
  • Changing job roles
  • Transition to Management
  • Supporting cultural change
  • Leadership development
  • Individuals working towards promotion.

About Lindsey

Lindsey Popplewell has 27 years’ experience in the Legal ProfessionI have 27 years’ experience in the Legal Profession, mostly as an in-house commercial lawyer but with the odd stint in private practice from time to time. My final post as a lawyer was as General Counsel to an International Trading Company in Zurich, where I was also a member of the Excom.

I became interested in coaching and mentoring later on in my career having been on the receiving end of a number of coaching and mentoring programmes and when I returned to the UK in 2015, I was lucky enough to be offered a position mentoring a senior lawyer in a FTSE 100 company. Other opportunities arose off the back of this and as a result I now run my own coaching and mentoring business offering services to both lawyers and other executives across a range of professions.
